Asus RT-AC5300 Review

Asus RT-AC5300

RT-AC5300 is a tri-band wireless router, with two band 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, which could provide a total data rate of up to 5300 Mbps. Each of the 5 GHz band offers a data rate of up to 2167 Mbps. 2.4 GHz band for a while, this router offers data rate up to 1000 Mbps.

But, of course, not just data rate reach a total of 5300 Mbps offered by high-end router this one. ASUS equips this router with a variety of capabilities and other features. Curious with what is provided in this router Asus? Before discussing these matters, we will first display a sales package that accompanies this router.

Sales Package

ASUS included some gear to support the use of RT-AC5300 this. Equipment that is in the packaging of this router sales package are:

  • Power Adapter
  • Power Cable
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Ethernet Cable
  • Support CD

Equipment supporting RT-AC5300 this is indeed somewhat skimpy for high-end routers. However, basically it is indeed just that equipment necessary to support the use of this router. It’s just that, to some extent, Asus might be able to add a provision that is included in accordance with the features offered by this router.

Design

High-end routers such as the present, the physical size of the RT-AC5300 this is great. Based on information from official website of Asus, this router base body, without the antenna, have a size 245 x 245 x 65 mm. Large size that seems intended to load the components that support the ability of this router.

The basic design of RT-AC5300 this in itself was quite different from the other Asus wireless routers, most notably the line of air conditioning and WiFi did not carry the diamond motif on the surface body. This design difference seems to be caused by the need to accommodate up to 8 external antennae for the wireless network router. The body of the router itself is built with the thick plastic material, thus showing the impression of sturdy nan stout.

This router, as we have mentioned before, is equipped with 8 external antennae. ASUS designed the eighth position of the antenna were to surround this router, two on each side next to it. The antenna used has a unique design, and overall really complement the unique form of RT-AC5300. All the external antenna could be removed from the body of the router.

Asus RT-AC5300 Review

Connectors and buttons that support operations of the device are placed in the left side of the Asus and the back of the device. For the back side, there is a connector DC-In, Gigabit Ethernet for the WAN, 4 x Gigabit Ethernet for LAN, and USB 3.0 as well as the Power button and the Reset. On the left side, there is a USB 2.0 connector, as well as the LED On/Off button, the On/Off WiFi, and WPS.

One thing which is quite unfortunate, the physical design of RT-AC5300 this is quite complicated access to various connectors and buttons that are on the left side and back of the device. Connectors and buttons on the left side of the device are difficult to access from the front because the existing one is obstructed by the antenna on the left-front, plus more Asus does not provide the location of the connectors and marker buttons that are easily seen. Likewise, for the connectors and buttons in the back, the absence of marker position make the user may be hard to install a USB or Ethernet cable without looking directly backside.

The placement of the USB 3.0 port on the back side and USB 2.0 ports on the side as well, in our opinion, quite unfortunate. USB 3.0 ports that are more suitable for attaching storage to USB-based RT-AC5300 is placed on the back side that is more difficult to reach from the front. While USB 2.0 might be more widely used for USB Modem or printer precisely placed on the left side who are easier to reach. USB Modems and printers will generally be less removable-plug into the router, while for storage, maybe users will need to take off-argillaceous subsoil explains more often.

Some indicators are placed on the front side of the Asus device. Not many of the existing indicators for RT-AC5300 this. ASUS just put the indicators for some of the important functions of the router, IE:

  • Power
  • Wireless 2.4 GHz
  • 5 GHz wireless
  • WAN/Internet
  • LAN
  • WPS

RT-AC5300 this can only be used in sleeping position, put on the table, shelves, or cabinets. The physical design of the router does not allow it to be used in other positions, such as standing, because the antenna is placed around the side of the device. ASUS also didn’t provide a mounting hole allowed her plugged into the wall.
