Genshin Impact: How to Find and Defeat the Guardian of Ruins

The Genshin Impact Ruins Guardian can ruin your day if you’re not prepared for him. They are huge, intimidating, and also fire homing missiles at you. How can we defeat them?

Genshin Impact is the latest craze to hit the ground running in 2020. First, we had Fall Guys, then Among Us, and now it’s miHoYo’s free action RPG title. Fans are transported to the kingdom of Teyvat, where they encounter a host of characters that they can recruit for their team through real money mechanics.

The game is heavily inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in its design, and players explore its vast open world to discover new locations, defeat enemies, find treasure, and more. One of those enemies you will come across is the Ruins Guardian, a terrifying-looking mechanical monster that can cause devastation if you don’t know what you’re doing. But that’s where we come in to help.

Where to find a Ruins Guardian in Genshin Impact?

If you haven’t come across one yet on your travels, you’re in luck, they’re terrifying. It’s self-explanatory, but they can be found guarding ruins and treasures. This means that if you want to get some very succulent treasures, you must first take them down! Their loot can be quite good though, so if you’re up for the challenge, they’re worth looking for.

The first Guardian you will meet is in the Temple of a Thousand Winds in Mondstadt. The story gets you there in the first few hours, so you won’t have to stray.

Once you’ve conquered it, there is another one in Brightcrown Canyon, which is on the northeast shore of Cider Lake, and also one in the Stombearer Mountains. There are likely more in other regions of the world, but they have yet to be discovered at the time of this writing.

If you look at the giant’s head, you will see a bright orange eye, that’s where you want to attack. There is also a similar area on its back, which is revealed when it stops to prepare the explosives it sends towards you. In this case, you’ll want to play as an archer character to make hitting those critical points much easier.

Amber is great for this, and you get her early in the main story campaign so you don’t worry about not having someone on hand who can wield a bow and arrow. Fischl and Venti can also be used if you’ve been lucky enough to recruit them through the Wish mechanic.

Once you’ve hit the monster at its weak spots enough times, it will fall to the ground and that’s when you’ll want to switch into a melee fighter and slice it with your sword or claymore. It is also a good opportunity to unleash special attacks for maximum damage.
