How to deauthorize a computer in iTunes
iPhone or iPod can be great companions, but they can’t blend in with many computers at the same time. Unfortunately, Apple does not authorize more than five computers to access the iTunes account.
This mechanism serves to protect the copyright of these files. Limiting the number of machines accessing the account, you avoid sharing with other users of the purchased products. So, music, videos, and applications can only be accessed by who acquired them.
This does not seem to be such a serious problem, until the time you complete the list of five authorized computers. When this happens, how do you change that list? How to add more machines and remove the authorization from computers that you do not use anymore?
Deauthorizing and authorization commands are the way to control which computers can play music, videos, or any other content purchased for your iPod. The Baixaki mounted a guide to unravel all the commands needed to accomplish this task.
Prerequisites
- iTunes Store Account
- iTunes
Deauthorizing a single computer
Deauthorizing A single computer is the ideal procedure for those who need only to vacate one of the slots in their account.
To deauthorize a single computer The procedure is very simple: just start iTunes and select the Store menu > deauthorize computer. Choose “Deauthorize computer to Apple account” and the program will prompt you for your account ID and password. Enter the information and the operation is complete.
Deauthorizing a single computer seems to be the easiest and most ideal solution. It really is, but it requires that you still possess access to the machine to deauthorize it. If you’ve lost access to any of the registered computers, it’s time to move on to a drastic solution.
Deauthorizing All Computers
The deauthorization of the five computers was created only for emergency use. It is the recommended feature for when you lose a computer for any reason or set up your ITunes account on some friend’s machine with whom you lost contact.
Attention:
The option should be used very cautiously because Apple only authorizes it once every 12 months.
This option is available only for accounts that have already reached the limit of five authorized computers.
Select “iTunes Store” from the menu on the left side of the program. If you are not logged in to the store yet, click the “Account” button and enter your Apple account ID and password. The “Account” button will also display your login.
Click on the “Account” button again (now with your login) and enter your password again. A window with the account information will appear. In this window, select “Disallow All”.
Authorizing a new computer
Now that you’ve already deauthorized the computers that you wouldn’t work with anymore, you can already add a new machine to your account.
Install iTunes and access the iTunes Store. Search for an item that has already been purchased previously and click the “Play” button. The computer will request your Apple ID and password. If that does not happen, it is because access to this machine has already been previously authorized.
Who warns friend is
The de-authorization option of all computers can only be used once every twelve months. As she is the only way to deauthorize a computer without accessing it, it’s best to prevent the situation from happening.
It is very important that you remember to deauthorize a computer before selling it or donating it. This prevents not only that you have to take the drastic measure of deauthorizing all registered computers, but also that someone else can access your iTunes account when using the computer from which you disbanded.
Hopefully, this tutorial will put an end to the problem of not able to authorize the use of your iTunes account on the computers you need!
